BENIN – OBA of Benin, Omo N’ Oba Erediauwa yesterday listed three conditions which aspirants wishing to rule the country and the states must meet.
The conditions are: they must ensure the unity of the country, respect for the traditional institutions and put in place economic programmes that would guarantee three square meals to the common man.
The Oba gave the conditions in Benin when a presidential aspirant and governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili visited him in his palace.
The Benin monarch told Odili that he had been quite impressed about his campaign so far, His words: “My prayers to the Almighty God and my ancestors is that whoever is going to be the president of the country or governors of the states, let him be that person that will accord respect to the traditional institution, ensure the unity of the state or country, and let him be the person to re-organise the economy so that the so-called common man should have three square meals a day”.
While praying for the success of the aspirant, he observed that there were many presidential aspirants from the South – South but declined to give an assessment on them, promising to do so in future.
Earlier, Dr. Odili told the Oba that he was in his palace to inform him of his desire to run for the presidency and to seek his prayers and blessing.
“We have picked up the form to shown intent and nomination. We have come to seek your blessing and asked for your permission to fill the forms. It will enable us to seek the ticket with other Nigerians, it will give us the people of old Mid-West and South – South the opportunity to produce the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Dr. Odili appealed to the Benin monarch to ensure that the South-South speak with one voice in its quest for the presidency of the country, noting that no-geo-political zone in Nigeria has as many ethnic nationalities like the South – South.
