RAMPAGING kidnappers in Edo, barely one week after a Benin chief and popular transporter, was abducted from his residence, the branch manager of a bank in Benin (names withheld) situated along Mission Road, was said to have been kidnapped by a gang of armed men on Thursday morning while preparing to go to the office.

The kidnap of this banker is coming on the heels of the release of a staff of the Dentistry Department of the University of Benin, identified as Mrs. Erameh, Friday night by her abductors, who took her on Monday morning while taking her children to school. Her husband is said to be a branch manager with a first generation bank in Benin.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded for a ransom of N10 million but the family, The Guardian, gathered were negotiating for N2.5 million, which the abductors were said to have refused but it could not be ascertained how much was eventually paid to secure her release.
Police sources said they were not part of the negotiation and that the family might not have made any official report on the matter to any of their stations.
Meanwhile, the bank manager abducted Thursday was said to have been accosted by a gang at his residence along Airport Road and taken to an unknown destination. No contact has been established as at press time.
Although the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Mr. Peter Ogboi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation yesterday, he declined further comments.
